Soldiers of Odin at anti-SOGI rally in Vancouver

The organizer of an anti-SOGI123 rally in Vancouver Monday said she invited members of the Hells Angels to attend. [Soldiers of Odin present see pictures]

“We invited the Hells Angels, we invited anybody who has children and who has a stake in education that is opposed to SOGI is welcome to stand with us,” said Kari Simpson of the Culture Guard group.

She said some accepted the invitation and attended.

Dozens of police officers were at Calgary’s Municipal Building on Saturday as several opposing groups organized rallies.

Ten marked police vehicles were lined up along Macleod Trail for hours while officers stood between the two groups, preventing them from coming in contact with each other. Over 200 people were gathered there around noon.

No Indigenous jurors were selected to examine the Colten Boushie case.

Federal New Democrats are pushing Liberals to reform Canada's jury selection process after a white Saskatchewan farmer was found not guilty of second-degree murder in the killing of a young Indigenous man.

Gerald Stanley was acquitted Friday in the 2016 shooting death of 22-year-old Colten Boushie, a member of the Red Pheasant First Nation. The verdict has sparked outrage, debate, and protests across the country.

The annual International Day Against Racism, marking the anniversary of the Sharpeville massacre in South Africa, will be held in Vancouver starting at Thornton Park (Main Street Skytrain Station) and passing through Chinatown to a teach-in at a location to be finalized soon.
