Edmontonians condemn Soldiers of Odin rally

A protest against a hate demonstration planned for Tuesday night was cancelled due to safety concerns, but a community organizer said a broader event against racism is in the works for late September.

Community members originally intended a direct counter to an event publicized by the Edmonton Chapter of Soldiers of Odin, a hate group rooted in the far-right.

Homeowner ‘overwhelmed’ by support to clean up racist graffiti

While Edmonton police investigate who tagged a south side home with racist graffiti last weekend, local companies are doing their part to help the family move past the shocking incident, and clean it up.

The family who lives in the home had been out of town for the Easter weekend, when they returned, they found racial slurs and swastikas had been painted in black on the front door, garage door, siding and driveway.

Crimes motivated by hate: Edmonton police

The hate crimes unit of Edmonton Police has laid numerous charges against four men who allegedly assaulted two men and a woman and made hateful comments against others in a rampage on Whyte Avenue last month.

Police say the men — who range from 18 to 32 years in age and are from Edmonton — also distributed flyers on Whyte Avenue and at the Churchill LRT station about a white supremacist rally scheduled to take place in Calgary this month.
